Thursday, May 31, 2007

Janet Earl, Emily Fox and Karen Doyle have assisted Liz Evans and Jack Lloyd (service users) to develop packages of training. Chester Uni have signed the team up to carry out Equality training to student nurses. This pilot project has been highly successful and resulted in us now looking for Lottery funding to develop a 3-year scheme. Already different organizations such as Muir Housing, Cross roads, Samaritans and local care agencies have shown interest and have signed up for future training. The intention is that the Inclusive Volunteers and service users will be the trainers and this will be a model for the future as the experts on disability are people who have a disability. We have proved that it can work and it was a very powerful way of presenting the personal experiences of people with a disability. Not only are we raising awareness but we are building service users confidence in expressing their true feelings and life experiences. We hope that real social attitudes could change by presenting a positive view of disablity.
